einer der Haupttheoretiker der indischen Poetik und Ästhetik, lebte im 9. Jahrhundert n. Chr.; Vorläufer von Abhinavagupta. Anandavardhana begründete die schon bei Hala vorgeformte »Dhvani«-Lehre vom Unausgesprochenen, dem implizit in der Dichtung angedeuteten Neben- oder sogar Hauptsinn, den er im Gegensatz zu dem als »Leib« geltenden wörtlichen Sinn als die »Seele« der Dichtung bezeichnet.
